"I look like a mini Husky, but I give full-size love."
Alaskan Klee Kais were bred to be a smaller, companion version of the Alaskan Husky. They are extremely loving and loyal, but they are also independent thinkers. Their high level of intelligence may cause them to question your motives and behave stubbornly.
Alaskan Klee Kai’s are independent thinkers, which makes training them slightly tougher. However, they are very smart and a firm-yet-kind approach to training will help your Alaskan Klee Kai become a great family pet. Alaskan Klee Kais are extremely loving and loyal toward their families, but are more wary of strangers. Exposing a puppy to new situations, new people, and other dogs is key to helping them grow up to be a dog everyone will love.
Alaskan Klee Kais have a thick double coat that looks very much like that of the Alaskan Husky. They do not require extensive grooming and will be fine with a weekly brushing to remove any dead hair thistles they brought in from their latest outdoor adventure.
Alaskan Klee Kais are best suited to colder climates due to their warm coat. They are very loving toward children, but cats are a different story. Alaskan Klee Kais love to chase, so you’ll want to keep them separate from any smaller furry friends, especially any they aren’t used to. They have lots of energy, so a home with a safe, protected yard for a dog to romp around and and play makes the best environment for this breed. Although Alaskan Klee Kais should have access to a place where they can play, they love to be around their owners and should be encouraged to spend most of their time inside with their family.
Alaskan Klee Kais have lots of energy and are extremely smart. Even though they can sometimes be independent thinkers, you can teach them to excel in obedience and other doggie sports. Of course, a good game of fetch, a strenuous walk, or some backyard playtime are also good ways to help you keep your Alaskan Klee Kai happy and out of trouble.
