Overview

As a Labrador Retriever-Basset Hound mix, the Basador is a family-friendly combination of both breeds. These adaptable dogs have personalities that vary depending on their surroundings, genes, and family. Overall, though, Basadors are known as affectionate pups that love being around people, playing, and chasing any animal in sight.

When you first look at a Basador, you can tell it’s a mixed breed, but you may not be able to tell what kind. As a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Basset Hound, these family-friendly pups have an unusual look and a loving personality. Basadors are affectionate and kind, but some may be more stubborn than others. They’re heavy shedders who need a good brush and patient owner to keep up with their grooming, but they have plenty of positive qualities too. Whether a Basador is more Basset or more Labrador, you can count on these dogs to love people, playing, and being part of the family.

Temperament and Behavior

The Basador’s personality varies depending on its genes, owners, and environment. If their Basset Hound genes are dominant, they may be more strong-willed and independent. If their Labrador side is stronger, they may be more laid back and easier to train. Either way, the Basador is a friendly, smart, and loyal breed that fits nicely into any family environment.

Coat & Grooming

Basadors have smooth, short coats that come in a wide variety of colors. They’re heavy shedders and also may have an odor. The Basador needs to be brushed frequently to keep their shedding under control, and if they have wrinkles, be sure to keep them clean and dry to prevent infection.

Lifestyle & Living Conditions

Basadors can get along well with kids and other pets if they’re socialized, trained, and brought up together. However, they have a strong prey drive and may prefer to chase cats and small animals instead of making friends. These pups also love being around people and should be primarily kept as indoor dogs.

Exercise & Activity

The Basador has plenty of energy to spare but will adapt to your lifestyle. They like taking walks and playing each day, and dog sports can be another good way to get their energy out. Games that tap to their hunting instincts, like agility, rally, and tracking, particularly pique their interest.
