Think of the Basset Fauve de Bretagne as a typical Basset Hound with a lighter, shaggier coat and more energy. These dogs have the same hunting traits, sweet personality, and love for family as similar Basset breeds, but you’ll find their looks and appetite for activity to be quite different.

The Basset Fauve de Bretagne is a social breed that gets along well with children and other animals. They’re naturally shy, so they may need a bit of training and socialization to warm up to new friends. When they’re hunting, Basset Fauves do well in pairs and enjoy being part of a pack. These dogs are small enough for an apartment, but their high energy and hound personality is a better fit for homes with large yards to roam and play.
Basset Fauves are high energy dogs that need a lot of exercise. They’re happiest when they get at least a few walks each day and playtime in a spacious outdoor area. Like other Bassets, this breed is known to run off to find interesting smells, so be sure to keep them on a leash or in a fenced area at all times.
