Overview

The Bull Terrier’s features are as unique as their personalities. These playful pups love to run around for hours, followed by a nice belly rub and nap on the couch. Bull Terriers are known for their kindness and funny personalities, making them the perfect match for just about any family.

You may have seen a Bull Terrier out and about, but you can't possibly understand their capacity for friendship until you have one in your family. These pups’ personalities make them ideal companions. They’re funny, spirited, and active, so get ready to play and laugh a lot. Bull Terriers are fairly low maintenance when it comes to grooming, but training may pose more of a challenge. They’re notably stubborn, but with obedience training and socialization, they’ll show you their gentle and kind-hearted side. This breed prefers to live indoors but needs daily exercise to get the blood pumping. Keep them active and loved, and they’ll do the same for you in return.

Temperament and Behavior

Bull Terriers are excitable, entertaining, and good-natured, but they also have a tendency to be hard-headed and stubborn at times. These dogs are usually gentle, but they’ll defend their owners and homes if they feel threatened because loyalty runs strong through their veins. Bull Terriers are stocky and mighty, but their strength is balanced by their undeniable sweetness.

Coat & Grooming

Bull Terriers have thick, short-haired coats. They’re primarily white or multicolored and often have highlights in their fur, but some dogs are red, broken black, or fawn colored as well. Many Bull Terriers have head markings, like a spotted area by the eyes or white strip on the nose. This breed sheds a lot, especially when the weather changes. Brushing them weekly and bathing them every other month will keep their coats shiny and clean.

Lifestyle & Living Conditions

Bull Terriers make great companions for children. They love to play and will befriend just about anyone. With socialization from a young age, these dogs get along with cats and other pets, but they may be more aggressive if they’ve had bad experiences in the past. Bull Terriers need to be watched to keep them from playing too rough with other dogs and small children. They’re indoor dogs, but if they’re left alone for too long or don’t get enough exercise, you may come home to unpleasant surprises.

Exercise & Activity

Bull Terriers get restless easily and need lots of exercise. Without it, they tend to become hyperactive and destructive, so an active dog is a happy dog. Bull Terriers love long walks and runs, preferably off-leash. However, they can be dominant toward dogs they don’t know, so keep an eye on them at the dog park and in community areas.
