"I’m always looking out for you!"
Central Asian Shepherds have been protectors for thousands of years. They are brave, powerful dogs who require a strong leader. Socialization is a must. They are accepting of people and pets of their pack, but should be supervised around little ones. Central Asian Shepherds will happily look after you and your home!
Central Asian Shepherds like to be outdoors to keep a watchful eye on their home. Calm around their family members, they quickly become alert and suspicious of strangers nearing them. Even when not on their own territory, these dogs will be protective of their pack and should be slowly introduced to new people and other dogs. Make sure to arm your shepherd with early socialization and proper training to ensure they are well-adjusted pups. Needless to say, Central Asian Shepherds make it their life's mission to make sure you’re always safe!
Central Asian Shepherds have two coat types: short and long. Both forms require minimal time and effort to manage. Brush them twice weekly and bathe as needed. These shepherds only shed heavily once a year, and a hearty brushing during this time will keep your dog’s coat looking healthy – and off your floor.
Central Asian Shepherds do best in rural settings where they have plenty of land to roam and manage. They also sound off their bark at odd hours, which makes extra space a good idea. If raised together, Central Asian Shepherds will consider most animals – even cats – as a part of their pack and be gentle and loyal toward them. If your Central Asian Shepherd is living indoors with you in a more suburban setting, be sure to give them a fenced-in backyard. Limited space can lead to unwanted behavior, like digging.
Central Asian Shepherds are hard workers and are seemingly never off the watchdog clock. They love having a job and if they don’t, it’s important that these dogs get up to two hours of exercise each day. Central Asian Shepherds can be a hiking or jogging buddy.
