Overview
Cockapoos bring together the best qualities of the Cocker Spaniel and the Poodle — affectionate, intelligent, and endlessly charming at every stage of life. Gentle and family-oriented, they thrive on companionship and form deep bonds with the people around them.
Cockapoos are a cross between a Cocker Spaniel and a Poodle, combining the warmth and sociability of both parent breeds into one consistently lovable companion. They are expressive, shaggy-coated dogs with genuinely affectionate personalities who form strong attachments to their families. Cockapoos do best in homes where they have regular company — whether human or animal — and they integrate beautifully with children, cats, and other dogs. Their low-shedding coat is one of the practical appeals of the breed, and regular grooming keeps them looking and feeling their best. Easygoing and adaptable, Cockapoos are happiest when they are part of daily life — present, involved, and close to the people they love.
Temperament and Behavior
The Cockapoo is known for its pleasant personality, loyalty, and patience. These dogs are very outgoing and always eager for your companionship and attention. In fact, they often become sad if they’re left alone for too long. To make your Cockapoo happy, be prepared to keep it close by and offer up plenty of hugs and kisses.
Coat & Grooming
The Cockapoo has a coat that combines aspects of the Poodle and Cocker Spaniel. Their fur can be curly, flat, or anywhere in between. Cockapoos come in a wide variety of colors, such as white, cream, tan, or a mix. They don’t shed much, but their coat needs extensive and thorough brushing to keep them clean and tangle-free.
Lifestyle & Living Conditions
Cockapoos' kind disposition make them a wonderful family pet. These dogs are gentle and loving with children and enjoy having company, whether it’s another dog, cat, or other animal. Cockapoos are the perfect size for apartments, but no matter what kind of home you live in, make sure you have enough time to devote to them and keep them as indoor dogs.
Exercise & Activity
Cockapoos have low exercise needs. They’ll be happy with a small yard where they can run freely and take the occasional walk. Above all else, these dogs want companionship, so whatever activity you choose for them, make sure they have a playmate to keep them company and share in the fun.
Health Considerations
The average lifespan of a Cockapoo is 12-15 years. Cockapoos are prone to eye conditions (Cataracts, Glaucoma, Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA)), Hip Dysplasia, and obesity.
