To keep their coats managed, they require weekly brushing to keep the dead hairs away and usually just an occasional bath is enough to keep them clean.
Deutscher Wachtelhunds need owners who are avid hunters. They love their families and want to live inside homes with them. They are great around most people and when properly trained, can live well with other dogs and children. The Deutscher Wachtelhund is an active, vibrant breed that prefers to be outside playing and hunting. They are brave and will courageously stand up to animals that are larger than them when they feel that they or their family may be in danger. On the days that they don’t hunt, they will still need long, brisk walks outdoors. Due to their high activity requirements, the Deutscher Wachtelhund may not be the right breed for everyone. They will certainly lap you in swimming though, since they’re always eager to take a dip!
