Peekapoo

Breed Group: Sporting

"Keep me close and fancy!"

Breed Profile

With the loving nature of a Poodle and the pride of a Pekingese, the Peekapoo is a smart, affectionate dog that will stay glued to your side and bark the day away. These easygoing pups don’t need much activity, but they make up for it in high-maintenance grooming and attention needs. Photo credit: www.flickr.com/photos/islandgyrl/4820241164

Behavior

The Peekapoo's personality can be a wild card because of their mixed genes, but these dogs are usually intelligent and friendly. Poodles are more outgoing and social, while the Pekingese tends to be shyer and a bit more stubborn. Although they’re small and cute, most Peekapoos actually make decent watchdogs because of their alertness and barking.

Coat

Peekapoo can have different types of coats, depending on whether their Poodle or Pekingese side is stronger. They may have curls, waves, or even straight hair and come in a variety of colors. Plan on brushing these dogs every few days to keep their coats tangle-free. Professional grooming is also popular with this breed to keep them looking their best.

Lifestyle

Peekapoo are companion dogs that need to live inside with their families. They can live in a house or apartment as long as they’re around people. These dogs may or may not be a good fit for families with kids, other dogs, or cats. If they’re more Poodle-like, they’re more likely to get along well together, whereas the Pekingese isn’t as fond of sharing their space.

Activity

The Peekapoo has low to average energy, so they don’t need much activity or exercise. These little pups will adapt to their owner’s lifestyle, so whether you like a short walk around the block each day or prefer to spend your time relaxing on the couch, they’ll be happy to join in.
