Breeding of the Havanese began within the United States in the 1970’s. Their coats are double, but without the harsh standoff guard hair and woolly undercoat usually associated with double coats. It is soft and light in texture with the outer coat carrying more weight. The long hair is ideally wavy. The Havanese breed standard states that they stand 8-12 inches at the shoulder and weigh no more than 13#, although many of ours are much smaller and in the 10-12 pound range. Havanese are neither timid, nor aggressive. They are intelligent and lively. They get along well with dogs of other breeds and are not quarrelsome dogs. They love life and activity – whether it be a romp through the snow, playing in the grass, a run on the beach, or just celebrating the day with you. All of our babies are litter box trained using puppy litter and a litter box system before leaving us. Just "food for thought". I grew up in a home where we always had female dogs in the home - never a male. After reading many, many breed books it has been said over and over that the males are really the more devoted companions. The vets just graduating from the nation's top veterinarian schools have now been taught that early spaying and neutering is best for the puppy - fewer hormonal tendencies such as leg lifting, "humping", etc. My daughter's Digby is such a joy. He will always squat like a female to pee, never thinks of marking territory, and yes - is very devoted. I now always recommend that unless you are considering breeding to keep an open mind regarding the sex of a puppy. Health benefits include reduction of cancer by up to 150-fold. Puppies arrive with a microchip implanted (we also charge you the $20 registration fee and personally fill out that registration form and send that in for you, then provide you with the certificate documenting this registration into the nationwide program). Regardless of registration status, you are getting a top quality, purebred, well taken care of, loved puppy. Health guaranteed! For those traveling via air, I purchase a new kennel, food and water dishes as required by the airline, necessary kennel stickers, a moisture proof packet of health information, vet check forms, pedigrees if you want them, registration forms, etc, I obtain an additional vet check before the flight, and finally make the 3 hour drive to/from the airport for drop off. I do ship within the US and take care of all reservations and plans for you. Shipping costs are the responsibility of the buyer. Shipping will run $395.00, all inclusive.
