“Chummy” is an incredibly sweet little gal. Her daddy is one of my working livestock guardians, and mama is a work in progress for a LGD. Unfortunately, spoiling is not always the best, and mama would prefer to be with us or chilling in the barn with her chickens than staying out with the goats. I have about given up on her as a livestock guardian and now she’s just the poultry guardian. Which she does great, but it took a lot of hands on training. I’m afraid we’ve done just as bad at separating ourselves from loving on her baby, this little chubby happy gal. My heart wants to keep her, but I’m just not having the time to train her for poultry, and my tiny home is not suited for a big dog. I’d love to find her a family home. Some place where she can just be loved and spoiled and follow her 2 legged charges. A home familiar with Akbashes would be preferred. They are extremely agile, and as far as guardians go, my big guys easily clear a 6’ fence to chase off a predator from their goats. As a family dog, I wouldn’t leave her alone in a yard and expect her to stay. Inside a house….on a couch, she’d do just fine. She’s been exposed to cats, small dogs, and chickens. But as with any guardian, she’ll need guidance until at least 3. I will be very picky with her home. I will not ship her. New family must be willing to meet her in Bonners Ferry. January update- Chummy is becoming farm savvy. Still prefers to be with people, but is learning to not cry quite so long when left with the stock. She’s doing great respecting chickens, ducks, cats, small dogs, goats, and horses. She has guardian potential, but only as a beloved member of a family as well. Still great Velcro dog, companion, possible service dog potential. She walks great on the leash, and does excellent staying at your side. Still a puppy, but is a great little gal. Still loves to flip in my lap when I call her and get belly rubs. She’s the happiest little girl!
