Our “Cavatons” have wormed their way right into the hearts of many families. One of the parents of a Cavaton is a non-shedding, Coton de Tulear while the other parent is a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. These babies carry the cavalier markings, yet will not shed like a cavalier does. Their hair coat will be fluffier than that of a Cavalier. Many families prefer Cavatons – more colorful than a white Coton, yet who can beat that Cavalier personality? The Coton hair coat blends well with the Cavalier hair coat. A Cavaton will need regular grooming sessions including weekly brushing and clipping sessions at the grooming parlor. We have found their adult body weight to be on the upper end of that of the Cavalier, meaning in the 16-18 pound range. We are able to register this litter with ACHC, thus insuring that you are indeed getting a Cavaton from two registered, purebred dogs both of whom carry three generation pedigrees. All of our babies are litter box trained using puppy litter and a litter box system before leaving us. Just “food for thought”. I grew up in a home where we always had female dogs in the home – never a male. After reading many, many breed books it has been said over and over that the males are really the more devoted companions. So—— when my daughter fell in love with a little male born a few days early in the middle of Grandma’s dining room floor I decided to do a little more research. The vets just graduating from the nation’s top veterinarian schools have now been taught that early spaying and neutering (meaning at 9-14 weeks of age) is best for the puppy – less hormonal tendencies such as leg lifting, “humping”, etc. Our young vet was all for it and does neutering at 10 weeks of age. My daughter’s Digby is such a joy. He will always squat like a female to pee, never thinks of marking territory, and yes – is very devoted. I now always recommend that unless you are considering breeding to keep an open mind regarding the sex of a puppy. Health benefits include reduction of cancer by up to 150 fold. For those puppies traveling solo via flight to their new homes, I do purchase a new kennel, food and water dishes as required by the airline, necessary kennel stickers, a moisture proof packet of health information, vet check forms, pedigrees if you want them, registration forms, etc. I obtain an additional vet check before the flight, and finally make the 3 hour drive to/from the airport for drop off.
