About our place

My name is Johanna, I grew up on a farm where my family bred and raised Cocker Spaniels, goats, chickens, and horses. As a young adult, I bred and raised Australian Shepherds until my children needed more time and attention. Since they have grown up and moved out, I have started raising poodles. What I love about poodles is their very unique personality. They are nothing like the Cockers I grew up with and the Aussies I bred and raised. Joyful Standard Poodles are AKC registered standard poodles. Lucy is my dam. She is behind the "Joyful". She is an outgoing, joyful dog. She loves everyone and her favorite thing when greeting a stranger is to lick their whole face. She loves attention and loves to try and be a "lap" dog. She was a beautiful, soft red when we purchased her but has faded to a very pretty, light apricot but continues to have a very soft coat. She weighs 57 pounds. Lucy is an amazing mom. She is 3+ years old. She has had two very large litters, the first was 12 puppies and the second was 13 puppies. She delivered spontaneously and immediately started caring for them. She was very attentive and easy going as she raised them. None of the puppies needed to be supplemented, they grew and gained weight consistently as young puppies. Vinnie is my stud, he is 3 + years old. When we purchased him, he was a returned to breeder puppy at 9 months old. He was very skittish as his first home environment was abusive. He has since become very low key with household. He does still have anxiety/guarding behavior especially with strangers. He will relax after awhile. Vinnie is cafe au lait and weighs 45 pounds. He came to us with a very long, chocolate brown coat and has faded to cafe au lait. Vinnie and Lucy are very athletic, spending a lot of time outside running around together. When not running around, they can be found lounging near or on me or out in the shop with Jim.
