GA. State law requires sales tax to be paid on each puppy sold inside the state of GA. We sell our puppies for the same price, or lower, than other breeders with the tax already included in the price. If you are looking at a puppy from a breeder who does not charge you sales tax, or state the tax is included in the price you pay, they are operating illegally within the State of GA. Rule 560-12-2-.55 The tax does not apply to charges for the keep of pets. Operators of kennels, stables and pet shops are required to pay the tax on purchases of tangible personal property used in such operations. SALES OF HORSES, DOGS, ANIMALS, GOLDFISH AND OTHER PETS ARE SUBJECT TO THE TAX, unless purchased for resale or otherwise exempt. Ask for proof of their sales tax number. They should be able to supply you with a GA sales tax number. Sales tax numbers may be verified using the Sales Tax ID Verification Tool available through the Georgia Tax Center. Visit the Georgia Tax Center, On the Home page, under Searches, click on Sales Tax ID's., Read the instructions and tips carefully. Click Next. then Enter the sales tax number(s) for verification.
