Overview

Peruvian Inca Orchids are loving and affectionate but are also quite timid around strangers. Some are hairless, while others have a coat. The hairless variety is a little extra work to groom, but both types make sweet indoor companions for people in all types of living situations.

Peruvian Inca Orchids love their owners but are more timid and shy with other people. Some are hairless, while others have a short coat. The hairless variety requires some extra work to care for their sensitive skin, but they are also very warm to snuggle up to because there’s no fur in the way. Since they’re so timid, Peruvian Inca Orchids are very sensitive and require an owner who’s experienced with dogs and understands their emotions.

Temperament and Behavior

Peruvian Inca Orchids are affectionate comedians toward people they know well but are much more reserved around strangers. They are cautious in any situations in which they are unfamiliar, and they don’t like to be touched by people they don’t know. Their attitude makes them good watchdogs, and their cautious and somewhat timid nature also translates into a generally sensitive nature. As a result, they don’t respond well to punishment or harsh treatment.

Coat & Grooming

Peruvian Inca Orchids with hair will require a weekly brushing with a very soft brush, but the hairless Peruvian Inca Orchid requires some extra attention. They need weekly bathing with a mild shampoo to keep their skin clean and healthy. You’ll also want to put moisturizing lotion on their skin to keep their skin soft. You can ask your breeder what type of lotion they’d recommend when you pick out your puppy.

Lifestyle & Living Conditions

Peruvian Inca Orchids have such delicate skin that they need to live indoors, but they can do so in all different kinds of housing situations. They don’t do well with temperature extremes, so they need to live in an environment that doesn’t get too hot or cold. Since they are sensitive to how they are touched, they’re not the best breed for children but can learn to get along with older, respectful kids. Peruvian Inca Orchids are not the best playmates for cats either, which is something to take into consideration if you’ve got any feline friends.

Exercise & Activity

Peruvian Inca Orchids need about a half hour of exercise every day. You can give them their exercise by taking them for walks or letting them play on their own in a safe, securely fenced-in yard. If you do let them stay outside for any length of time, be sure the area is shaded, as these hairless dogs are very sensitive to the sun.
