Breed Profile

Pudelpointers are a rare hunting breed with many talents. They are excellent gundogs who retrieve equally well on land and water. They are smart, eager to please, and gentle. If you are willing to wait to find the right puppy, this breed makes a wonderful companion.

Behavior

Pleasing their family is generally #1 on a Pudelpointer’s priority list, and they want to protect them. They makes great watchdog but usually will not act overly aggressive toward strangers once they’ve alerted you with a warning bark. They love to hunt and retrieve and will not pass up an opportunity to play in water.

Coat

The Pudelpointer’s wiry, dense coat is excellent at protecting them from the elements when they’re out hunting with you in the field. You’ll need to give them a weekly brushing to keep their coat healthy and to remove any dead hair or debris they’ve accumulated during trips to the great outdoors.

Lifestyle

Pudelpointers have lots of energy and prefer to live somewhere with a large, safe space to play. They are best suited to a rural home where their barking won’t annoy any neighbors. Other than needing some extra space to live in, a Pudelpointer can fit into most any family. They are excellent with children and usually get along with other pets, especially if they are raised together. Pudelpointers are very family oriented, and although they’re fine outside for awhile, they should be allowed to live indoors with their people families.

Activity

Pudelpointers are not short on energy and need a good amount of exercise every day. A Pudelpointer's favorite way to exercise is to go hunting, where they can follow their nose and retrieve game for you on land or in water. In fact, they love playing in water, so be ready if you walk by a pond! If you don’t hunt, some playtime in the backyard and a hike or jog are great ways to help your Pudelpointer work off their vast energy reserves.
